At Light + Building 2026, Zumtobel presents its comprehensive portfolio of emergency lighting and escape route systems. Designed to cover all relevant application scenarios, the solutions comply with stringent regulatory requirements in industrial, commercial, and public buildings. Key highlights include the new dynamic escape guidance system SMARTSIGN and SMARTescape, as well as CROSSIGN PRO, a unified platform of exit signs and emergency luminaires featuring enhanced ERI spot technology.
SMARTSIGN – Dynamic emergency lighting
With the LCD display luminaire SMARTSIGN and the SMARTescape control software, Zumtobel introduces a dynamic emergency lighting solution capable of responding flexibly to changing hazard scenarios. By displaying variable pictograms, the system can adapt escape route guidance in real time and interact with other building systems such as fire alarm installations. The full-color Full HD display supports all ISO 7010 safety symbols and can be supplemented with custom text messages such as “stay in” or “CO alarm.” Flashing patterns can also be activated to heighten attention in critical situations and guide occupants safely away from hazards such as fires or gas leaks. Using the SMARTescape software, escape routes can be flexibly configured to reflect different building uses and safety concepts. For example, a sports venue used for athletic activities during the day and social events in the evening can be assigned different routing strategies as required. SMARTSIGN luminaires are rated IP40, offer a viewing distance of up to 38 meters, and provide multiple mounting options. They comply with relevant standards for dynamic escape routing, including DIN 14036 and EN 17951.
The system is easy to configure and can be operated in combination with the SMARTescape software and the nBox central battery system. SMARTSIGN can also be integrated into the TECTON continuous-row lighting system – including both existing TECTON installations and the new TECTON II – enabling fast installation and seamless integration into general lighting.
CROSSIGN PRO – Targeted illumination with enhanced ERI spots
CROSSIGN PRO is a cross-functional solution that combines LED exit signs and emergency luminaires within a consistent design language. A key feature are the newly developed ERI (Escape Route Illumination) spots. Equipped with two escape lenses and one spot lens featuring a patented 360-degree rotatable optic, they provide targeted illumination of escape routes and safety equipment such as fire alarms or extinguishers.
Thanks to significantly increased performance, fewer luminaires are required, reducing investment, installation and maintenance costs. Installation is simplified by generous wiring space and a click-in system for the pictogram unit. All key parameters can be programmed wirelessly on site via NFC using the PROset Pen or PROset App. Available in IP42 and IP65 protection ratings, CROSSIGN PRO luminaires are suitable for offices and schools as well as demanding industrial environments.
Digital apps support lighting design
To facilitate planning, Zumtobel provides user-friendly web applications for desktop use as well as apps for iOS and Android devices. The RESCLITE PRO app simplifies emergency lighting design by instantly calculating maximum luminaire spacing and wall distances once the mounting height is selected. The Zumtobel Sign app offers an overview of the complete exit sign portfolio and guides users directly to the most suitable product for their application.
Sustainable in accordance with the Zumtobel Circular Design Rules (CDR)
In line with Zumtobel’s Circular Design Rules (CDR), both SMARTSIGN and CROSSIGN PRO are optimized for circular economy principles. The products are designed for easy disassembly, incorporate durable materials, and feature a high proportion of recyclable components.
